Empowering the Indian Diaspora in Munich: Insights from our Session with Mrs. Anshika Singh

On February 28, 2026, German Bharatham hosted an insightful online session featuring Mrs. Anshika Singh, a mechanical engineer and dedicated member of the Foreigners Advisory Board of Munich. As she contests for both the Munich City Council (Stadtrat) and her local District Committee (Bezirksausschuss), we gathered to discuss how her leadership can bridge the gap between the Indian community and the German political system.

About the Host: German Bharatham

The event was hosted and moderated by Ramakrishnan Pandiarajan, a scientist and the President of German Bharatham.

  • Community Leadership: German Bharatham is an active community of over 1,500 Indians in Germany.
  • Mission: The organization focuses on networking and empowering the diaspora through regular online sessions and collaborative projects.
  • Technical Vision: During the session, Ramakrishnan proposed leveraging the community’s technical expertise to build mobile solutions that help Indians navigate complex German processes like KVR registrations and contract verifications.

A Journey from Engineering to Political Action

Mrs. Singh moved from Delhi to Munich 11 years ago, completing a master’s in automotive production engineering before joining Man Truck and Bus. After obtaining German citizenship in 2019, she chose to join the CSU (Christian Social Union), finding that the party’s focus on the economy and the welfare of Bavaria aligned with her personal values.

Her political experience grew through grassroots campaigning, and in 2023, she secured the third-highest number of votes in Munich for the Foreigners Advisory Board—a significant milestone for Indian representation.

Addressing Key Challenges for the Indian Community

Participants raised critical integration issues that many expats face daily. Mrs. Singh addressed several key areas where political representation can make a difference:

  • KVR & Bureaucracy: She acknowledged the complexity of KVR processes and proposed that the City Council could implement better AI systems and allocate more resources to speed up services.
  • Housing & Nature: Her platform includes a focus on increasing affordable housing, strengthening tenant protection (Mieterschutz), and maintaining urban greenery.
  • Pension Concerns: In response to concerns about the German pension age, she offered to draft an application for parliamentarians to advocate for pension flexibility for foreigners moving out of Germany.
  • Cultural Representation: In her current role, she has already helped secure funding for Indian cultural projects, ensuring our festivals and arts are represented at government events.
